Migration registration of international students
After crossing the border of the Russian Federation and your arrival in Nizhny Novgorod, you must be registered for migration at the place of stay no later than 7 days counting from the date of crossing the border. This obligation cannot be waived or changed. Violation of this rule may lead to your deportation and a ban on entry into the Russian Federation. If you plan to live in a university dormitory, you will registered for migration by the Minin University.
For primary registration, a foreign citizen is obliged to present his/ her passport and a migration card to the International Students Office
(Nizhny Novgorod, Ulyanova St., 1, room 233) not later than the next day after moving into the dormitory.
If you do not plan to live in a dormitory, but you will rent an apartment or a room, the obligation to register you for migration will be assigned to the owner of the apartment or room. If the owner of the apartment or room refuses to register you for migration, you must move into a dormitory, or look for another apartment where there will be no problems with migration registration.
The period of migration registration does not depend on whether you will live in an apartment or a dormitory. This deadline must be strictly observed.
Full-time international students arriving on a visa-free basis can be registered for the entire duration of their studies based on a study agreement. To extend the registration, a foreign citizen must contact the International Students Office no later than 30 days before the expiry of the registration period.
- International students residing in Russia on the basis of a visa can be registered for migration for a period not exceeding the validity period of the visa.

Attention! If you have crossed the border of the Russian Federation, or have been hospitalized, your registration will be canceled. To restore registration, it is necessary to contact the International Students Office after returning to the place of residence.
