Professor Martin Neef from the Technische Universität Braunschweig, a partner institution of Minin university, gave a lecture at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena.

In his report Prof. Dr. Neef, a member of the Institute of Germanic Studies Comission, author of numerous monographs, articles and manuals on linguistics, presented the definition of “IPA” (international phonetic alphabet) and its functions.

Prof. Neef thoroughly analyzed main characteristics of various sounds, and also gave a comparative description of sounds in English and German languages. Apart from this, Prof. Neef presented the analysis of various methods of teaching phonetics and teaching transcription of a foreign language.

Teachers and students specializing in German from different countries attended this lecture. Among the participants were teachers from Minin university and graduate students whose major is “Modern Technologies in Teaching German as a Foreign Language”.

After the end of the lecture representatives of Minin university, the Technische Universität Braunschweig and the Friedrich Schiller University Jena held a meeting where they discussed further cooperation of institutions.

A Cooperation agreement between Minin university and the Technische Universität Braunschweig was signed in 2018. In September 2018, Minin university was a co-organizer of the Summer School “Linguistic Theories in Teaching a Second or Foreign Language” in Braunschweig. In 2019, the Technische Universität Braunschweig became a co-organizer of the International scientific and research conference “Scientific discussion: issues of philology and the technique of teaching foreign languages”.
